BHIKKHUNI (On The Road)

TONY RAYNS RECOMMENDED

Deep in the confines of the forests of Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, a group of women known as bhikkhuni live their lives away from the secular world. The word Bhikkhuni refers to Buddhist female monks and Baekheung-am temple devoted to female monks.

Bhikkuni — Buddhist Nuns is a documentary that follows the lives of 4 women who have decided to become monks. Each of them has their own reason for joining and for 300 days the cameras follow them around as their lives transform and take shape in one of the most restricted access areas of Korea. The Baekheung-am temple rarely opens its doors to public access and especially not the type of access these cameras were given.
